It’s that time of year again. The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) is due to open for bidding next month (October 2017). If you are the leader of a single academy trust, smaller multi-academy trust (MATs), or sixth form college; now is the time to prepare your bid.
If this is your first time bidding, you can register to use the CIF portal at www.gov.uk/guidance/condition-improvement-fund. Keep an eye on the website for updates on application and registration deadlines.
What does a CIF bid entail?
To be eligible for CIF government funding, you must define your proposed project. The three suitable categories are ‘condition’, ‘condition with expansion’, and ‘expansion’. Project proposals are assessed by a panel of government officials who will make the final decision based on your application.
The Education Funding Agency (EFA) provide guidance on their website to help with your bid. Academy trusts can also apply for loans as part of their CIF proposal to show their commitment to the scheme. Proof will be needed to show a contingency plan is in place to manage cash flow of the project.
How will CIF benefit our school?
When you’re considering what you want from your CIF bid, it’s best to focus on what your school really needs. CIF funding can be used to:
- Enhance a building’s energy efficiency
- Improve safety
- Carry out repair work
- Build new class room blocks
- Modernise heating and electrical systems
- Create an improved learning environment
